Bapu

September 27, 2010

In past couple of days i received the following text message from some of my friends:

Everyone celebrates  birthday of Gandhi on 2nd Oct.

27th Sep 1907 is birthday of Bhagat Singh. Does anybody know that?

Atleast pass this message to everyone. Let the real hero be respected.

My replies to them:

We should celebrate not only the birthday of Bhagat Singh but also that of Rajguru and Sukhdev. Not only them but thousands and lakhs of other freedom fighters too. But why is it linked to celebrating Gandhi’s birthday? Gandhi was not an unreal hero, he was the greatest personality of 20th century and a real hero.

Very often I have seen that Bapu has been the most common hate symbol for many in our society. Don’t be shocked by this..! This is the truth. People who have little knowledge about Bapu and out of their sheer ignorance they tend to hate him. His ideals are ridiculed at. I remember then what Einstein had said about Bapu – “Generations to come, it may well be, will scarce believe that such a man as this one ever in flesh and blood walked upon this Earth. ”
